Testing Q&A
Q. What should I look for in an assessment?
A. Use the following criteria to evaluate any assessment:
- Does the assessment measure an attribute that is clearly related to performance on the specific job and is difficult to train once the person is on the job?
- Are the results of the assessment easy for hiring managers to understand and interpret?
- Is the assessment easy to administer and not overly burdensome on the candidate or the administrator?
- Has the assessment been constructed by a responsible party in accordance with professional standards, to include collection of reliability data, validity evidence, and disparate impact data?
- Is a technical manual detailing the construction and validation approach, as well as recommended use procedures available?
