What are Personality Assessments?

Personality Assessments measure different aspects of a candidate's personality as they relate to job performance. In general, these assessments ask the candidate to describe themselves through a series of questions. The results then correlate with specific attitudes, interests, and motivations and are compared against known ranges for the job being addressed.

What types does Brainbench offer for hiring?

Brainbench offers both pre-hire and employee development personality assessments. This section addresses our pre-hire personality assessments. Unlike most of the assessments available today, these assessments focus specifically on pre-hire selection, only addressing attributes known to impact job performance.

The following three types of Pre-hire Personality Assessments are available:

  1. Pre-Hire Personality Screen Assessments - These are short 55 question tests that are specially built to measure only the personality aspects that are most important when you are making a hiring decision. Fast and easy, they are well-suited for the screening function. There are 10 scales provided, which are grouped into two main categories:
    • Job Fit
    • Attitude Towards Work
  2. Pre-Hire Productivity Index - These are 74 question assessments that focus on reliability and integrity factors. Designed to help you screen candidates who are likely to exhibit counter-productive behaviors.
  3. Pre-Hire Personality Profile Assessments - These are 100 question tests that combine both of the above assessments to give you a complete evaluation. There are 20 scales provided, which are grouped into four main categories:
    • Job Fit
    • Attitude Towards Work
    • Counter-Productive Behaviors
    • Productive Behaviors

Job fit factors like teamwork, perfectionism, idea generation, match the candidate's work preferences to the job. Attitude towards work factors measure how good an employee they will be.

When are these assessments appropriate to use?

Pre-hire Personality Screen Assessments are most appropriate for pre-screening, while the other assessments are appropriate for pre-interview selection purposes.

How long do these assessments take?

The Screen Assessments typically take 10 minutes, while the selection assessments take 15-20 minutes to complete.

What do the results look like and how do I interpret them?

Summary numerical results are available inside a corporate account and in your results e-mails. These results include overall job fit, and a score for each scale (1-100). More detailed results are provided via a downloadable PDF. These include graphical representations of each scale, as well as overall job match, and suggested interview questions. What versions are available?

We offer versions tuned to several common job types, such as Outbound Call Center and Information Technology Professional. Additionally, these assessments are available in both English and Spanish.
